Hello again music lovers,

It’s a great pleasure to be back in touch with you. It’s been a long time and I have a lot of great things to share.

I have a new acoustic record called Flying Solo which is coming out this week, I am headed to Texas and then Europe for some CD release tours and I have been playing a ton of music and producing some great records in Los Angeles.

Flying Solo

The new record is made up of 12 songs that are mostly just voice and acoustic guitar.

It has 6 new songs recorded in my home studio, The Den, and 6 live recordings culled from concerts and radio station visits from the last few years. One song, which was recorded live in Finland, is a solo mandolin and vocal version of ‘Steady At The Wheel’ which I wrote back when I was touring with  Shooter Jennings and was #1 on Texas radio for 6 weeks.

Some of the songs were co-written with my friends at home in the L.A. country-rock scene (Kirsten Proffit of Calico, David Serby, Bobby Joyner, Nicole Gordon), in Austin (Tony Scalzo of Fastball, Gordy Quist of the Band of Heathens) and in Nashville (Chris Tompkins). One of the guest musicians is an amazing guitarist I play with when I tour in Finland named Tommi Viksten.

Flying Solo is finally the acoustic record which accurately captures my live solo shows when I tour solo with just my suitcase and guitar.

Producing

I have also really been hitting my stride in my home studio producing a few really great records in this last year.

I just finished co-producing an EP with AJ Hobbs. AJ is a great old school country singer and songwriter. He will also be going to Texas this month and we will be doing a bunch of shows together. His EP, The Den Sessions, is available on his website and at his live shows. www.AJHobbsmusic.com

Nate Smith is a great singer songwriter and rock musician from Los Angeles. His debut record, Around and Around features some truly soulful singing and some more rocking Neil Young and Crazy Horse style rock and roll as well as some stunningly beautiful and spacious ballads. www.cdbaby.com/cd/natesmith3

Creekwood is a great band from Orange Country. We met a few years ago and they brought me in to produce their record. Creekwood are a very talented band that wanted to create a classic and clean singer songwriter meets country sound featuring their great harmony singing and virtuosic fiddle and banjo players. Robin Wiley is another great singer and songwriter I have been working with. Robin has been living in Austin so our writing and recording sessions have been spread out over time whenever one of us is in each other’s home city. Richie Allbright is a killer old shcool country singer and songwriter from the Corpus Christi area. Through mutual friends we met and did some shows together. Richie flew out to L.A. where we recorded for a week a few months back. We are now in the mixing stages and about to complete the record. www.richieallbright.com

I hope you are all doing well.
Night Owl, has been out almost 9 months now. It made the US Americana Radio Chart (#34) and the Euroamericana Chart (#15) and we got a really great response. I hope you are as happy with the results as I am. Thanks again for the help – and making it possible.

And I am excited to say I am leaving today for another tour of Europe – Finland, Sweden, Germany and the Netherlands. I am actually sitting at LAX now waiting to get on my flight to Amsterdam.

Then in November I will be back in L.A. doing a Sunday night residency at a great bar downtown called Villains and hopefully producing a few records.
And from December 6-15 I will be back in TX doing another tour there.

I have also just started recording the next record! It is tentatively called ‘Resonator’. I will keep you posted and get some mp3s posted soon. I have done a few sessions in L.A. and Nashville and will be recording with my bands in Finland and in Texas on these next few tours. This next album will be even more of a ‘recorded on the road’ album than Night Owl and I am very excited about it.
